If you’ve ever gone live on TikTok, or you’re a regular visitor to another creator’s live streams, then you’re probably familiar with the concept of TikTok Gifts. These are little tokens of appreciation you can send to creators if you like what they’re doing and want to support them. Gifts will result in a creator receiving Diamonds, which can be converted into real currency or into virtual items. It can sometimes be a slightly confusing system, but it’s a good way for creators to reap the rewards of their popularity.
So, what exactly are TikTok Gifts, or LIVE Gifts? What kind of Gifts can you send, and how much are TikTok Gifts worth? A system like this must be too good to be true, right? Well, let’s take a look at the TikTok Gift system in-depth and see just what the fuss is all about. We’re answering all your burning questions, from “how much are TikTok gifts worth?” all the way through to “how do I redeem my TikTok Diamonds?”. Let’s get started!
How do TikTok Gifts work?
If you’re going live on TikTok, then you may start to see followers and viewers sending you Gifts. These are tokens of appreciation that can range from small gestures, like a rose or a cup of tea, all the way through to some of the most expensive TikTok Gifts around, like the Lion or the Universe. You’ll receive Diamonds based on how many Gifts you get, and you can, in theory, cash Diamonds out for real money, although there are certain restrictions on doing this.
If you want to send Gifts, then you’ll need to purchase TikTok Coins. In the UK, these Coins are worth around 1p each, according to Don’t Disappoint Me, with discounts available as you buy bigger and bigger bundles of coins. You can then use these coins to buy gifts. The full list of gifts is way too large to list here, but you can see the list of TikTok Gifts by country over on StreamDPS, where you’ll note that a Lion will set you back a staggering 30,000 Coins.
When can you send Gifts?
Gifts can be sent to creators of both Live videos and regular TikTok content. All you need to do if you want to send a Gift is to tap the Gift button at the bottom of a live stream, then pick your gift and spend the requisite amount of Coins. After doing this, just tap the Send button.
There are some restrictions on this system, of course. You will need to be 18 years of age or older if you want to send a Gift (19 in South Korea), either during a live video or for a regular piece of TikTok content. You’ll also need to be watching a regular creator account rather than a governmental or political account, as these accounts are ineligible to receive Gifts (for fairly obvious reasons, we would hope). To a politician, the question “how much are TikTok gifts worth?” has a very different answer!
If you need to buy Coins to send a Gift, you can do so by heading to your profile, then finding the Settings and Privacy option. From there, pick Balance, then Recharge. You’ll then be prompted to input what Coin package you’d like to purchase. Be sure not to spend beyond your means! You can also recharge your balance via a video by trying to send a Gift. If you don’t have the Coin balance, then TikTok will prompt you to recharge.
How much are Diamonds worth?
When you receive Gifts as a creator, you’ll get Diamonds based on how popular you are, i.e. how many Gifts you’re receiving. According to Influencer Marketing Hub, TikTok Diamonds are worth around half of the coin value of the gift, which means that if a coin is worth about 1p, then a Diamond is worth around £0.005. By Don’t Disappoint Me’s logic, this means that if you’re gifted something that’s worth £10 (i.e. a 1,000-Coin gift), then you can expect to receive around £5 from that Gift. How much are TikTok gifts worth in that light, then? Well, it varies, so make sure to check the value before you send or redeem!
You might also be wondering why you only get half of the value of a Gift. This is because TikTok takes a 50% commission on all Gift values, so before you’ve even cashed out your Diamonds, you’ll be losing half of their value. It’s an unfortunate fact of the platform, but this commission is entirely unavoidable. It’s best to think of Gifts as an additional source of supplementary income if you’re aiming to become an influencer rather than to rely on them entirely for sustenance.
How do Gifts work in other countries?
TikTok sets the value of Coins in other countries, so it’s difficult to say exactly how much Coins are going to be worth in each country. Every country’s Coin value and Diamond value could be different, so make sure that you read your country’s Coin rules thoroughly before you purchase anything, and if you’re an influencer, do make sure to read through the rules before you cash in your Diamonds. If you have any questions, make sure to talk to a representative at TikTok, who should be able to clear up any misgivings or misunderstandings.
How to redeem your Diamonds
If you’re a creator and you think you’ve got enough Diamonds to redeem, then you can head to your profile, then Settings and Privacy, then Balance. You should see your Diamond balance listed there, and you can hit the Withdraw button if you have enough Diamonds to do so.
You will, according to TikTok’s legal guidelines, need $1 or your local equivalent if you’re withdrawing via PayPal, but if you’re using bank transfer in the UK or Germany, that limit is $9, and it’s $5 for a French or Swedish bank transfer. You can withdraw up to $1,000 per day in Diamonds, but if you’ve reached that level, then we think you’re doing pretty well for yourself!
